Who is Anees Khan

From Leeds to Lullanagar — A Journey Built on Conviction

Born and raised with a deep love for hospitality, Anees Khan took his passion to the UK — completing a Masters in Hospitality Management at Leeds University in 2005. It was there, surrounded by the world's best hospitality thinking, that the seeds of TOSS were planted.

He returned to India not with a job offer, but with a vision. A vision for a sports lounge that didn't yet exist in India — one that would combine the energy of live sport with the warmth of genuine Indian hospitality and the sophistication of a world-class bar.

That vision became TOSS Sports n Spirits. And what followed was 13 years of building, learning, failing, adapting, and ultimately creating one of Maharashtra's most recognised hospitality brands.

What Drives Him

Principles That Built a Brand

Hospitality First

Every decision — from menu design to staff training — starts with one question: does this make the guest feel extraordinary?

Build to Last

Trends fade. Brands endure. Anees has always built for the long game — investing in quality, consistency, and culture over shortcuts.

Resilience as Strategy

COVID-19 didn't break TOSS — it sharpened it. Every crisis is a classroom. Every setback is a setup for a stronger comeback.

Community Over Commerce

TOSS was never just a business. It was a gathering place — a community hub where sports fans became regulars and regulars became family.

The Foundation Years

Anees pursued his passion for hospitality through formal education, culminating in a Masters in Hospitality Management from Leeds University, UK — one of the world's leading programmes in the field. The exposure to global hospitality standards, business thinking, and diverse cultures would prove invaluable.

The Incubation Period

Returning to India, Anees spent years studying the Indian hospitality landscape — its gaps, its opportunities, and its untapped potential. He observed that sports fans in India had nowhere to go that truly honoured their passion. Bars were generic. Restaurants ignored sport. The sports lounge category simply didn't exist at scale.

Building TOSS

On 1st January 2013, the first TOSS Sports n Spirits opened at Lullanagar, Pune. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Over the next six years, TOSS expanded to 12+ outlets across Pune — including landmark locations at Koregaon Park and Phoenix Marketcity — serving over 5,000 meals a day at peak and building a loyal community of sports fans.

The COVID Test

The pandemic was the ultimate stress test. Overnight, the hospitality industry collapsed. TOSS, like every restaurant and bar in India, faced an existential crisis. But Anees refused to fold. He adapted — pivoting to delivery, renegotiating leases, retaining core staff, and using the downtime to rebuild systems, refine the menu, and reimagine the brand for what came next.

The Next Chapter

Emerging from COVID with hard-won clarity, Anees is now focused on the most ambitious phase of the TOSS story: a national franchise rollout. With a proven brand, two tested formats, and a playbook refined through 13 years of real operations, TOSS is ready to scale. Alongside this, Anees is building AstroMap and DRS — two ventures that reflect his broader vision of using technology to create extraordinary experiences.

In His Own Words

"I didn't build TOSS to make money. I built it because I genuinely believed India deserved a better sports lounge experience. The money followed the belief."

— Anees Khan

"COVID was the hardest thing I've ever faced professionally. But it also gave me something invaluable — clarity. I came out of it knowing exactly what TOSS is, what it isn't, and where it needs to go."

— Anees Khan

"The best hospitality makes people feel seen. Not just served — seen. That's what we've always tried to do at TOSS."

— Anees Khan
